Inflammatory Diseases of the CNS I: Encephalitis

چکیده
Introduction Intracranial infections involving the bones of the skull or spine (osteomyelitis), the extradural compartments, the pachymeninges (dura), subdural space, leptomeninges and subarachnoid space are mainly caused by bacteria and occasionally by fungi and viruses (leptomeningitis). The organisms that infect the CNS itself (the brain and the spinal cord) are mainly viruses and bacteria, but fungi and protozoa, such as Toxoplasma and amoebae, do occasionally invade the CNS. Encephalitis can be defined as diffuse inflammation of brain tissue, or spinal cord (encephalomyelitis or just myelitis). Two major forms of encephalitis occur: those due to virus infections and those due to autoimmune inflammation Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM).

P124: Listeriosis in Central Nervous System
Listeriosis is one of the CNS inflammatory diseases which is happened majority in the form of sporadic. Listeriosis is ingested with the food. Infection occurrence in an exposed person depends on the number of organisms ingested, the virulence of the organisms strain and the individual condition. It is known that Listeriosis has decisive importance as an infection which the cellular immunodefen...
متن کاملP 96: Role of Thrombin in Inflammatory Central Nervous System (CNS) Diseases
Thrombin is a multifunctional enzyme which has key roles in coagulation cascade and inflammatory events. The pro-inflammatory functions of thrombin occur by different mechanisms including increasing mast cell degranulation, up-regulating the expression of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) and promoting the secretion of inflammatory chemokines and cytokines. Dysregulated signaling functions of thro...
متن کاملNEURO IMAGING OF CNS LESIONS IN AIDS
Background: The aim of this study was to review and characterize the pattern of CNS lesions in patients suffering from AIDS and to correlate these patterns with clinical disorders. Method: The MR scan, medical records and laboratory findings of 58 AIDS patients were reviewed retrospectively during April 1994 to November 1997 at the Olive view/UCLA and Shiraz Medical Centers, and the patterns o...
متن کاملO17: Inflammation in Brain and Spinal Cord
our goal in this paper is to describe and compare basic immunopathologic pattern of common demyelinating disorder, that is very important to choose the best treatment. The most common disorders are multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica,Anti MOG associated disease,ADEM and autoimmune encephalitis. ADEM consists of ‘‘sleeves’’ of demyelination centered on small, engorge...
متن کاملP132: Efficacy of Crocin as Anti-Inflammatory Agent in Multiple Sclerosis Patients
Inflammations form an integral part of the innate immunity against pathogenic infections. NF-κB represents a family of inducible transcription factors, which regulates a large array of genes involved in different processes of the immune and inflammatory responses. It is now clear that NF-κB signaling pathway is involved in the regulation of inflammation, contributing to the initiati...
